Founded in 2012 by four friends with a passion for home brewing, Sleeping Giant Brewing Company started with a simple idea: bring the love of craft beer to the great community of Thunder Bay.
From that, Sleeping Giant grew with hard work, the support of local bars and restaurants, and a passionate fan base of local craft beer drinkers. In time it went from a few beers sold locally in NWO to a diverse portfolio of beers available across Ontario and into Manitoba and the United States.
Sleeping Giant moved from its starter home to its larger facility at 712 Macdonell St in 2016 and expanded its packaging and production lines. Within a year, a unique taproom experience developed, with patrons enjoying a cold pint while overlooking the many stainless tanks and brewing equipment. A convenient beer store and merchandise shop with local collaborations greeted everyone that came through the door.
Today Sleeping Giant finds itself at the beginning of a new chapter: now part of the Original Gravity craft beer family. At Original Gravity, we’ve long admired Sleeping Giant from afar — not only for the incredible beers that were created over the years, but also for the loyal community and legacy that was built in NWO. The opportunity to take Sleeping Giant forward is very exciting and also comes with big shoes to fill...
Our goal is simple: keep brewing the beers people know and love, honour what has made Sleeping Giant so special, and help ensure that this proud Thunder Bay original continues to be enjoyed for years to come. While we’re starting with the beer, we hope this is just the beginning — with the goal of one day sharing a pint table with the Thunder Bay community in a Sleeping Giant pub once again.
